Pumpkin Carving Tips

Published by trieschman at 9:52 pm under Musings Edit This

We carved our pumpkins tonight. The girls were so excited. I learned a few tips while doing so.

After cleaning out the insides, rinse the entire pumpkin with water. Water is good for pumpkins.

To transfer the pattern to your pumpkin surface, use a ballpoint pen and push hard. This is much easier than using the poking tool. Then remove the pattern and go over the indentations with your ball point pen.

Carve the smallest pattern pieces first. Work your way to the largest pieces.

Do not remove any pieces until you are done carving. This will give structure to the pumpkin and make carving easier.

After carving, rinse the pumpkin in water again. It will remove small pieces stuck in your carving areas.

Now the pumpkin is ready to display.

I never thought about leaving the pieces in place until I was done…so many years, so many pumpkins needing plastic surgery ;)
