Hamburger Pie - Recipe

Published by trieschman at 10:18 am under Favorite Things., Recipes Edit This

This recipe was handed down to me from a friend of my mothers. I remember eating this growing up and now my husband loves it. It is similar to a Shepard’s pie. The secret ingredient is tomato soup. It sounds strange but it really works. It is really easy and simple to make but tastes great. One helping isn’t enough. Unfortunately it is easy to over eat on this one.

The basics are:
Brown 1 lb. ground beef
Once done, add a can of tomato soup and remove from heat.
Place into casserole dish.

While the beef is cooking, prepare potatoes for mashing: Enough to feed 6 - 8 people.
Boil potatoes until soft.
To mash: add milk, butter, salt and pepper to taste. Layer this on top of the ground beef in the casserole dish.

On top, layer shredded cheese to taste (we like a lot, I used the Mexican blend)

Refrigerate until needed. Then bake in over until boiling and the cheese is melted. About 1 hour at 350 if it was refrigerated.

Alternatives: add green beans and or corn

Essentially, all the ingredients are cook so you can bake it, or microwave it to heat.
